With winter well on the way make sure your garden is ready by clearing the last fallen leaves so that your lawn gets enough light and air.  Leaf litter makes very good leaf mould if placed in a black bin bag with some holes punctured in it.  You can mix this with compost and use in the garden next year recycling the leaves.

Make sure your pots are grouped together in frosty weather as this gives each pot some protection and exposes less surface area.  If you have some expensive pots that might crack or split try wrapping them in bubble wrap and standing the pot on ‘feet’.  Make sure the top is open to allow light and rain in to the plant inside.

Don’t forget to feed the birds and put out some fresh water for them on a regular basis.  To attract a variety of birds make sure you have a choice of bird food for them and position your feeders away from places where predators like cats can wait to catch them!
